The Undergraduate Advising Council, wishing to recognize the value of high-quality academic advising at Appalachian State University, is pleased to present three annual awards for academic advising--one to be presented to a faculty advisor, one to a professional advisor, and one to a student support professional. The UAC Excellence in Academic Advising Awards are peer-nominated and include a plaque and a $500 stipend.
Faculty and staff from all academic colleges, schools, and departments are encouraged to consider which of their peers exemplify excellence in academic advising. Such excellence might be evidenced by:
Faculty & Professional Advisors
1. Consistently demonstrating a caring and helpful attitude toward advisees
2. Delivering accurate information regarding program requirements, including Gen Ed
3. Providing insight for semester/career planning
4. Informing advisees of available university resources
5. Keeping up-to-date on AppState’s regulations, policies, and procedures
6. Supporting student development through academic, social, and professional engagement
7. Monitoring and communicating student progress toward graduation
Student Support Professional
1. Exemplifies excellence in their professional interactions and customer service
2. Maintains accurate information regarding degree requirements, policies, and procedures
3. Completes tasks in a timely manner or ahead of schedule
4. Improves the efficiency & innovation of processes procedures, and reporting
5. Displays exceptional service is supporting faculty, staff, and administration requests
6. Supports student development through internal maintenance of academic records
7. Monitors, analyzes, and communicates students progress toward degree completion
Award recipients will be eligible to receive the Outstanding Advisor Award again three years after winning.
